Obituary of Carl William Salter

Age 87, of Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, formerly of Hantsport, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 2, 2023 at home. Born April 28, 1936 in Hantsport, he was a son of the late William and Doris “Pauline” (Dill) Salter.

Carl was a proud 27-year veteran firefighter of Hantsport Fire Department. He loved snowmobiling, Thursday night bowling league in New Minas, horses and attending exhibitions. Carl spent 22 years at CKF Inc., followed by 20 years as a Postal Clerk in Hantsport. His favourite day of the year was Hantsport’s Canada Day celebrations.

He is survived by his sons, Fred (Gloria) and James (Charmaine); brothers, Glynn (Marie) and Barrie (Rita); grandchildren, Carrie and Carmen Salter, Andrew Salter, Jaimie (Josh) Nelson, Macey (Joey) Rolfe, Katrina (Radwin) Zagala and Kailee Salter; 13 great grandchildren; as well as special cousin, Burton (Flo) Smith; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his first wife, the former Nancy Swan; son, David; sister, Maxine (George) Tucker; granddaughter, Allison (Salter) Holthoff and second wife, Maureen.

Thank you to the Ivy Meadows staff for the care they provided Carl. A big thank you to all Windsor Elms Village staff who made Carl’s last months wonderful, but especially for making his last Canada Day, and last day with us, “Heaven on earth!”

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home, 419 Albert St. Windsor (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5. A private family interment will be held in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Gail Whalen-Dunn officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory of Carl may be made to Windsor Elms Village, 174 Dyke Rd., Falmouth, NS B0P 1P0 or charity of one’s choice.
