Obituary of Thomas Wilfred Blakely

Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Age 75, of Falmouth, formerly of Windsor, Hants Co. and Ontario, died peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on December 18, 1947 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he was the son of the late Thomas “Wilfred” and Mavis Bowman (Horne) Blakely.

Tom lived in numerous spots in Canada including many years in Ontario but finally settled in Nova Scotia for over 30 years, primarily in the Windsor, Hants Co. area. He enjoyed almost all aspects of cottage life (minus the snow) especially being out on the water whether it be by sailboat, kayak or canoe. He dabbled in small game hunting and enjoyed fishing in his younger years. While living in Ontario, Tom was a Toronto sports fan, enjoying the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs, witnessing the Stanley Cup in 1967. Luckily, he was able to witness something many of us may not in our entire lifetime. Along with a good sense of humour, Tom had a big heart and donated to many organizations and charities over his lifetime, always trying to make a difference and help out as best he could. He had a real passion for good food accompanied by a relaxing drink whether at home or on his travels. Thomas worked in several different fields in his early years but eventually became an entrepreneur. He operated several businesses in the Windsor, Hants Co. community.

Tom is survived by his son, Justin Blakely (Kelly) and grandchildren, Jaelin, Lauren and Kierstyn; as well as extended family members.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Susan Mavis (Blakely) Grislis.

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to Tom’s caregivers later in life with special thanks to Arlene Spencer for her dedication.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private family Celebration of Life will be held in Ontario in the near future. Tom will be missed and he would smile if people would celebrate his life with some good food, good drink and maybe...no definitely, something really sweet. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thomas may be made to Windsor Elms Village, 174 Dyke Rd., Falmouth, NS B0P 1P0 or Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, 150 Exhibition St., Kentville, NS B4N 5E3.
