Obituary of Esther Nettie Armstrong
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Esther, at the age of 90, on Monday, July 17, 2023, with family by her side, in Haliburton Place, Windsor. Born on March 16, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Charles Arthur and Florence Lavinia (Atwell) Schofield.
Mom called Haliburton Place home for the last four years. She grew up in Windsor Forks and after she was married, she and dad moved to Three Mile Plains, where she spent the rest of her life surrounded by family and friends.
She was a quiet lady, always willing to lend a hand. She loved to prepare family dinners, especially at Christmas. Mom was a member of the Three Mile Plains Sunday School Auxiliary and the Three Mile Plains Community Hall Auxiliary. She enjoyed her time volunteering. She was a beautiful quilter, loved knitting, especially socks and mittens and was also one of the best bakers we knew, passing her many talents on to her family.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Rod) Fletcher; Valerie (Steve) Fletcher; Janet (Rick) Hogan; Sharon (Barry) Grundy and Jocelyn Rhind; son, Michael; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister, Mildred Salter.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Owen Armstrong; daughter, Patsy; son-in-law, Kenneth Rhind and brother, Charles “Bub” Schofield.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, July 24 in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Garnet Parker officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Burial will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King St., Windsor. Donations in memory of Esther may be made to Friends of Haliburton Place, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or a charity of one’s choice.
