Obituary of Robert Dennis Skelhorne
SKELHORNE, Robert “Dennis” “Denny”
Age 71, of Falmouth, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 in the Halifax Infirmary Site – QEII, Halifax. He was born in Halifax on January 25, 1952 to the late Robert “Bob” and M. A. Una (Perry) Skelhorne.
Dennis went to high school at Hants North Rural High School. He went on to become a Red Seal Certified Electrician and worked as a Fire Alarm Technician, advancing to Fire Alarm Shop Supervisor for the Department of National Defense. He enjoyed relaxing and singing along with friends and family, hunting and exploring on his 4-wheeler with friends. He was involved in the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed his time with the Brotherhood.
He is survived by his daughter, Jody, Dartmouth; son, Aaron (Myrlene), Edmonton, AB; grandsons, Alek, Nathaniel and Alton; granddaughters, Elonna and Annabel; great-grandsons, Deakin and Lewis; sister, Connie (Bruce), Dartmouth; brothers, Fred (Cindy) and Dwaine (Joanne), all of Noel; companion, Ethel, PEI and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Hughena (MacKinnon).
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his friends that took the time to visit and call him and to the nurses and doctors at the QEII Hospital, Halifax.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 29 anytime between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre, to help celebrate Dennis’ life. A public graveside service will be held in Stewartdale Cemetery, Stewartdale, Cape Breton on Saturday, September 30 at 3 p.m., Rev. John Tapscott officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow in the Stewartdale United Church Hall, Whycocomagh. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dennis may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Box 245, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4 or Canadian Diabetes Association - Nova Scotia Division, 101-137 Chain Lake Dr., Halifax NS B3S 1B3.
