In Memory of Betty Moonyeen Skuffham

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Moonyeen Skuffham, age 89 on Monday, October 7th, 2024 at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born in Ottawa, on August 20th, 1935, she grew up in Chester, until graduation, then attended Ryerson University in Toronto. Upon graduating from Ryerson, she set down roots in the big city until she moved back to Nova Scotia in her retirement.

Betty enjoyed a busy, exciting and eccentric career. She was a model, writer, editor, and loved her time in radio and broadcasting. Her ability to communicate was her strongest asset. When you listened to her share a story you could feel every description. She had a beautiful way with words and a professional speaking voice that commanded attention.

During her personal life, she traveled the world, read thousands of books, loved music, spent time with her family and friends, volunteered in her community and adored her kitties. We often said that when we passed away, we all wanted to come back as Betty’s cat as they were loved beyond words and were treated like royalty.

When Betty moved back to Nova Scotia in retirement, she lived in Dartmouth where she met the love of her life, Clare. Their love story was beautiful, and we were so grateful that she got to share her later years with him.

Betty leaves behind a small, loving and supportive circle of friends and family.  Her niece, Jenny took great care of her during her final years when she could no longer take care of herself. The Windsor Elms Village staff became an extension of her family, and we will be forever grateful for the love and support they provided Betty.

Betty is survived by her niece, Jennifer Skuffham (Mike Bishop); sister-in-law, Dianna Skuffham; godson, Michael Gwynne (Michele) and his family, cousins, Bonnie Brazeau (Don), Marian Pienta (Rick) and their families, Sri, Vivega and their two sons who called her Betty Gramma, and her great nephew, Reid Ward, who was the apple of her eye. Betty also leaves behind her dearest friends, Jutta, Pat, Marion, Beth and Deb. She loved her small family and circle of amazing friends. She always said how lucky she was to be loved by all of us.

Betty was predeceased by her father Jack, mother Freda (Susie); her brother, Bob, and her loving partner, Clare.

The family would like to extend a big thank you to their family and friends for all their love and support and especially thank the incredible team at the Windsor Elms Village for helping us take care of Betty in such a respectful, kind and loving way. We will never forget what you have done for our family and for our Aunt B.

Betty will be missed and remembered by all that knew and loved her.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per her request, a graveside service only will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King Street in Windsor on Friday, October 25th at 1:00pm.
