Ted was my first boss at OSFI, the federal financial regulator. He generously shared his knowledge and experience of an accountant-auditor as well as his insights of the civil service. His mentorship turned into friendship. (The Toronto Symphony is our common interest). I visited Ted and Eileen twice during their retirement and experienced the Withers' style of a driving holiday. Ted kept in touch with his ex-colleagues during his visits with Sarah in Toronto, where some of us met him for lunch.
Ted's easy going style and loyal friendship will be missed. My sincere condolences to the family. May God's mercy comfort you all in this difficult time. Rest in peace with Eileen, Ted!

I had the great pleasure of being Ted's bridge partner and friend for the past ten years. His intellect and decency drew people to him. Whenever I wanted advice, whether about stocks, relationships or bridge, I could always call on him for reasoned answers. I was truly blessed to have such a friend, and already miss him.
I also admired his commitment to his families, particularly Adam, Kendra and Ema, who he loved dearly. Ted knew this day would come, and did everything in his power to make sure they would be in a position to carry on when he was gone. And they loved him dearly in return.
We have all been blessed to have him as an important part of our lives.

Ted was a lovely man, quiet and gentle. I knew Ted for about 20 years and had the pleasure of playing bridge with him several times when he visited Toronto.
He will be missed.
