ALLWRIGHT, James Ernest Firman "Jim" - 86, Berwick, Kings Co., it is with heavy hearts that the family announces his passing after a lengthy, well-fought battle with cancer, on Monday, February 6, 2012, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Montreal, Que., he was a son of the late Ernest and Ida (Stone) Allwright.Left to mourn Jim's passing are his loving wife of 58 years, Alexandra R. "Sandra" (Bentley) Allwright, Berwick; sons, Bill (Carla), Paris, Ont.; David (Elaine), Victoria Beach, Man.; daughters, Elizabeth (Vince) Porter, Valrico, Fla.; Jennifer Allwright, Brandon, Fla.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a second great-granddaughter due to be born this week; sister, Lil Berry, Alma, Que.; sister-in-law, Charlene Bentley, Berwick; aunt, Mildred Clarke, Woodville; many nephews and nieces; much loved cousins in England and the United States. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Clara D’Albenas and Ethel Lockyer; nephew, Kenneth D’Albenas; brother-in-law, Ronald Luckman.Jim was a graduate of McGill and Acadia Universities. He was a well-respected teacher and Principal for 33 years, in Quebec and the last 16 years in Ottawa. Jim and Sandra retired to Berwick/Donnellan’s Brook in 1985. He fell in love with Nova Scotia and the family spent many of their summers on the Fundy coast or on the Bentley farm in South Berwick. A great source of happiness and comfort in Jim’s retirement years was ‘his church family’ at Aylesford United Church of which he was a proud member. Jim will also be remembered by his darling Boston Terrier, MacKenzie.Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Bryce Johnstone and DeMont Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Service (902-538-8317). There will be no visitation. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 11, in the Aylesford United Church, 2414 Hwy No. 1, Aylesford. Rev. Brenda Nesbitt officiating, with interment at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aylesford United Church or to the Kings County S.P.C.A.
