Age 88, of Windsor, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 7, 2013 in Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born in Windsor, he was the son of the late Harold and Hazel (Sexton) Wilcox.Jim was a hardware merchant, the owner of Wilcox Bros Hardware, later to be Wilcox Home Hardware in partnership with Clarence Redden. He was a generous and selfless man who would always be there to help when needed. He saw all people as equal and important. He graduated from King’s College School, now known as King’s-Edgehill. He was a veteran of the Second World War and longstanding member of the West Nova Scotia Regiment, Commanding Officer as Major. He was a driver for 29 years in the Windsor Fire Department and was also a Past President of the Windsor Rotary Club. Jim was a great supporter of Christ Church Anglican in Windsor. He enjoyed hockey and played for the Windsor Maple Leafs, Nova Senior Team and later was a member of the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society. He was a curler, a boater, a good skater, a horse and dog lover, and an enthusiastic ATV’er. He could fix or make anything. He loved to tell a great old story. Most of all he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.Jim will be sadly missed by his wife of 66 years, Helen (Morison) Wilcox; his four children, Dr. Heather (Bruce) Wellwood, Wolfville; Barbara (Michael) Hughes, Windsor; James Wilcox (Deborah Parker), Halifax; Jennifer (Joey) O’Brien, Canmore, Alberta; grandchildren, Richard (Tomoe) Wellwood, Vancouver; Dr. Alison Wellwood (Adam Wood), Wolfville; Sarah Wellwood (Jay McConnell), Port Williams; Tyler Wellwood, Calgary; Dr. Laura Hughes (Dr. Dylan Kozlick), Vancouver Island; Rachael Hughes (James) Ruddock, Hatchett Lake; Stephanie O’Brien (Stefan Bullock), Calgary; Jan O’Brien (Christian Janes), Canmore; Jake, Max and Will O’Brien, Canmore; great grandchildren, Samuel and Sophie Wood, and Carmen Bullock; nephew, Laurence Wilcox, England. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother, George Wilcox.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Funeral service will take place 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 11 in Christ Church Anglican, 543 King St., Windsor, Rev. David Curry and Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Private interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to Windsor Elms Village, 174 Dyke Rd., Falmouth, NS B0P 1L0 or charity of one’s choice.
