Obituary of Charles Wilford Crossley

Age 75, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at home in Wolfville, in the arms of his wife and daughter, Cindy, after a lengthy illness. He was born November 19, 1938 in Walton, and was a son of the late Wilbert and Viola (Lake) Crossley.Chuck is survived by his wife, Sandra (Fletcher) Crossley; sons, Jonathan (Claire), Rawdon, and Bradley (Andrea), Chartered Settlement, N.B.; daughters, Cynthia (Brian) Boyd, Mount Uniacke; Dolores (Paul) Nielsen, Burton, N.B.; Pamela (Nick) Bird, Moncton, N.B.; Connie (Dyrald) Cross, Ottawa, Ont.; brother, Lewis (Winnie) Crossley, Summerville; sisters, Gladys Brown, Cheverie, and Florence Harvey, New Minas; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lydia Crossley and Ruth Crossley; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Lake, Cheverie, and Hilda Carey, Windsor; brothers, Luke, Burlington, and Bob, Bramber; brothers-in-law, George Lake, Murray Carey, Ervin Brown and Ernie Harvey.Chuck was a carpenter by trade and worked for many companies in Nova Scotia. For the last 10 years of his working life he was a janitor for the Hants West District School Board. He had a great interest in woodworking, guitar, singing, storytelling, bingo and card playing. Chuck will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a helpful friend and neighbor. He never shied away from hard work, and every job was done to the best of his ability. "Learn to do it well, then learn to do it fast" was his motto. He had a great sense of humour, a quiet sensitive nature, and he faced the challenges of pulmonary fibrosis without complaint, and stayed positive until the end.The family wishes to thank all the people involved in Chuck’s care: VON nurses, respiratory therapists, Dr. Hazen Burton, Dr. Anne Gordon, and others too numerous to mention. The insights and support gained from those visits was invaluable. Special thanks to Ralph and Betty Worr for the regular visits, advice, helping with oxygen, snow removal, and the list goes on and on.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held Sunday, March 2 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John’s Anglican Church, 164 Main St., Wolfville, Rev. Sandra Fyfe officiating. Private family interment will follow in Willow Bank Cemetery, Wolfville.
