Obituary of Glenn R. Joudrey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glenn on September 8, 2014. Glenn passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at his home, the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, Hants Co., just shy of his 93rd birthday. Born in Bridgewater, on September 12, 1921 he was a son of the late Ruby and Thelma (Dukeshire) Joudrey.As a young man, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and proudly served our country during the Second World War. This service included time spent in England, France, Germany and Holland. Following the war, he worked with his brother, Eric, in the vegetable and fruit business on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. It was during this time that he married Reta Stafford of Liverpool, in 1947. In 1948, Glenn joined the HJ Heinz company as a salesman for the South Shore and part of Halifax. A flourishing career prompted moves to Halifax and later Moncton where he worked as part of the senior management team for the Maritimes. He retired in 1980 after a long and successful career in the retail grocery business. At that time, he and his wife decided to move to Windsor, where his daughter and family resided. Although Glenn retired from his vocation, he continued to actively participate in his community. He was a lifetime member of the Lions Club having been a member for over fifty years. During his service with the Lions Club, he was the recipient of many prestigious awards for his outstanding service but in particular, he was honoured to receive the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and the Ron Sheehy Award. In addition, Glenn was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over sixty years and a very dedicated member and volunteer within his church community. Glenn will be remembered for his love of his family, his many contributions to our community, his skillful card playing, his knowledge and love of sports, his endless candy supply and of course, his admiration for Heinz ketchup!He is survived by his only child, his daughter, Susan (Doug); grandchildren, Jeff Fraser (Jill); Jan Fraser (Wayne Burke) and Holly Fraser; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Alex and Abby Fraser, all of the Windsor area; sisters, Betty and Yvonne of Bridgewater; as well as nieces and nephews. Glenn was predeceased by his wife, Reta (October 2012); brother, Eric; step-mother, Carrie; sister, Vivian and nephew, Jack. Warm and special thanks to the staff of Fundyview, Windsor Elms Village and Dr. Jim Leahy, who not only provided exceptional care but also the gift of friendship along the way.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 009 will conduct a tribute service at 6:45 p.m. followed by visitation until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, 339 King St., Windsor on Thursday, September 11, at 11 a.m., with Father Craig Cameron officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private family burial will be held Friday, September 12 in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery, Liverpool. Donations may be made in memory of Glenn to New Boundaries Society; Kings Meadows Residence Society or the Windsor Senior Bus Society, all of which were very important organizations to Glenn.
