Obituary of Douglas Graham Campbell

Douglas Campbell, age 84 of Ardoise, Hants County, N.S., passed away peacefully Wednesday November 12th at the Hants Community Hospital with his wife Lillian by his side. Born in Saint John, N.B., he was the son of the late Clarence and Jessy (St. Claire) Campbell.Douglas was a journeyman in the sheet metal trade and took great pride in his work. He was a welder, electrician, and a jack of all trades. There was never a job or task that he wouldn’t attempt. He was a paratrooper in his early years and served as a seaman in the Canadian Navy; he was a truck driver, and a biker travelling on his Harley-Davidson throughout Canada and the USA. He was an inventor who could design and make ingenious devices to help him move large items by himself around his property. His family gave him the nickname "MacGyver". He loved creating sculpture out of scrap metal, spark plugs, etc. He and Lillian were amazing ballroom dancers and they won numerous dance competitions. Douglas was a devoted member of the Baha’i faith. He was a great story teller of his life journeys. He was the type of man who loved to laugh and joke and he would want everyone to celebrate his life. His family and friends were very important to him. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.He is survived by his wife of 58 years Lillian (Sampson) Campbell; two daughters, Debbie (Gary) Mosher of Dartmouth, and Christina (Joseph) Myatt of Dartmouth; one son, Steven Campbell of Ontario; nine grandchildren, Matt Mosher, Tracy lee MacPhee, Meaghan (Josh) Adamski, Mikaela (Stefan) Eisebraun, Michael (Natasha) Mosher, Kimberley Campbell, Amanda Campbell, Penny Campbell and Markham Mosher; eight great-grandchildren, Madelyn Wilson, Kayla Campbell, Tamara (Blackmore) Campbell, Donovan (Blackmore) Campbell, Jack Adamski, Liam Mosher, Simon Adamski, and Emma Eisebraun; and waiting for Jillian Josephine (Colford) Campbell and little baby Mosher. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor, NS (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the Baha’i funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre, with interment at Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King St., Windsor, NS. Doug’s family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the nurses, personal care workers and doctors at units 200 and 500 of the Hants Community Hospital for the excellent care, support and compassion they provided.Doug was a three time cancer survivor.
