Obituary of Alvin Carlton Ells

Age 85 of Hantsport, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Friday, December 19, 2014 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in White Rock, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Gordon and Ella (Long) Ells.Alvin was an avid sports fan with a great memory, entertaining visitors with his stories right up until the end. He was a former Hantsport Shamrock having played centre field in the late 40’s and 50’s. He coached minor ball and organized tournaments for both baseball and horseshoes. Alvin was a charter member of the Hantsport and District Lions Club along with Lions International and he served for many years on the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre board. He was a devoted member of the Hantsport Baptist Church serving as a Trustee and choir member. Alvin worked as a Barber in Wolfville for over 50 years.He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth "Bette" DeMont; daughter, Dawn (Greg) Elliott, Calgary and children, Meaghan and Ryan; son, Tim (Anya) Ells, Kentville and children, Elijah and Emma; sister, Erna (Bev) Sawler and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Alvin was predeceased by sisters, Doris (Bob) Clayton, Helen Davidson and Bernita (Donald) Davison.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). Respecting Alvin's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Bishopville Cemetery, Bishopville, Rev. Tom Davidson (nephew) officiating. Donations in memory of Alvin may be made to the Hantsport Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
