To Garry's family I send my sincere condolences. My years of teaching in the Hants West system meant that many times I would see Garry at meetings, workshops, when doing visitations to TMPS and when carpooling with one of the teachers at that school. Inevitably there would be lots of fun teasing and camaraderie that I fondly remember and always will.

It is with much sadness that I hear of Gary's passing. I remember fondly the jam sessions that I attended many years ago, shortly after Mike and I made the move to Toronto. It's easy to see where Mike and Doug caught the music bug.
Hugs to Zelma and Doug and Laurie (long time no see). Mike, I'll see you soon.

My sincere condolences to all of you! Mike and Doug, I remember your dad with fond memories...from his towering stature as principal back in the elementary days...to his sly smile and sense of humor....to watching and listening to him "swingin" with the band. Truly a giving man... his absence will be missed. May you find comfort in all he accomplished, all the memories and the love of your friends and families!!

We truly lost one of the 'good guys' with Uncle Garry passing. Such a genuine, loving man full of life and always able to put a smile on people's faces. It was always a pleasure to see Uncle Garry and Grandpa (Ray) together acting like teenager's, showing everyone lucky enough to be around them what its all about, having fun and laughter. My heart goes out to Aunt Zel, Mike & Lesley & Doug & Laurie (and their kids). Unfortunately I know exactly what you are all going through right now and feeling but we can all be rest assured that Uncle Garry is at peace and pain free looking down on all of us now, most likely with a drink in one hand and smiling, ear to ear, at how proud he is of all of you and and the pride he has in you and all his surrounding family, Coast to Coast, listening to tunes!!
All my love,
Paul & Kyla Parkin

Zel, Mike and Doug, I've only known Garry since I was born so it's kind of hard to sum him up. I'll remember his faux grouchiness when taking us to the rink for 6:00 a.m. games, the time he threw Norman out of the house for blocking the TV during the '72 Canada-Russia series, introducing the neighbourhood to video games by buying Pong for going easy on me after I carved my initials into a desk at Windsor Elementary, and for taking BJ mackerel fishing.
I'll miss him,
Bill

Zel, Mike and Doug,
My deepest condolences. I'll remember "Mr. Murley" as being a a huge part of our community for many many years...whether in the school-yard when I was a little kid at Windsor Elementary, or at the golf course, or listening to the Dixieland Band, and so on and so on. The Scotts, the Nelsons, the Purdys, the Kimballs, and of course the Murleys...and parents such as Gary that made the Wiley Avenue/Victoria St/Albert St neighbourhood a great place for kids and families to grow and have fun. Cheers to Gary.

Dear Murley family
Knowing Gary, and your family for almost 40 years has been truly wonderful
I always knew I had a place where I felt welcome
I enjoyed taking the high school band to Gary's school to play a concert .
The kids always appreciated it and so did Gary
I appreciated his attitude towards education and people ,his respect always showed and was acknowledged by everybody
It was a pleasure to work with him as a musician , whether it was playing in a big band or working on recording project with the centennial Dixieland band
Jesus said "do not let your hearts be troubled ...my fathers house has many rooms"
I imagine there's one room for Mega Jams
God bless you Gary, thanks for the love

Dear Zel and family
I've been looking at the info about Garry and remembering his graduation photo and thinking of all of you and hoping that you are doing okay. We are sending our love and hugs to all of you for sure and he was a wonderful uncle to the little Mossmans, and even to all of us when we finally grew up! (Well, he might not agree that we grew up, of course!)
I'm wondering now where his middle name came from, although I'm sure I knew at one point.... And I'm certainly thinking of Grampy and Grammie too. It is very hard when people who have been so good and so kind at helping me grow up well are no longer here. But as I said to Mike, Garry was a Good Man and that is a wonderful memory that I'll always have.
Several weeks ago, we booked a trip to NS in mid August so I will be in touch, Zel, to let you know the details before we come. We will hope to be able to give all of you hugs in person.
much love

To Zel, Doug, Mike, Laurie, Mat and Erin:
My deepest condolences on your loss.
I was incredibly fortunate to grow up with Garry. His affable nature and infectious laughter made the Murley household my favourite place to be. Later, in my early adulthood, when no one else could, Garry had a way of getting me to sit and listen to the things I needed to hear. Sadly this often occurred after I had shared a few rum and cokes with Doug, so I never remembered much of his wisdom!
What I do know is that Garry had an immensely positive impact on my life and I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. My Sadness is tempered by the knowledge that Garry's spirit will live on in the lives of those he has touched and he touched so many lives.

Dear Zell, Michael, Doug and family:
Please accept our sincere sympathy on the loss of your husband and father Gary. I felt bad that I missed him when he was in briefly at the Hants Community Hospital a few weeks ago. He had been discharged the day I went in to see him and then unfortunately I didn't get over to the house.
Gary and I go way back to 1970's when we worked together in Windsor Minor Hockey when Doug was a Squirt player with our house league team and our activities with the Windsor Board of Trade, Sam Slick and Winter Carnival days and Gyros. Gary was a talented musician with his old big base and obviously Mike inherited the musical talent and has achieved great things in the Jazz field. I always enjoyed Gary's dry humour and he never ceased to crack me up! We are sure he will be sadly missed by you all.

To Zelma and members of the Murley family,
I would want to express my condolences upon Garry's passing. I got to know him by my participation in the Big Valley Swing Orchestra and through this, learned that for part of every year when at Baxter's Harbour, he and Zelma were neighbours.
Clearly he was an active and respected member of the Windsor community and there can be no doubt that his musical abilities live on in his children. I enjoyed his company -- especially his sense of humour, and am thankful for the opportunity to have considered him a friend.

Dearest Zel, Mike, Doug and family;
Garry's passing touches my heart as I reflect on many connections and a lifetime of memories shared. Memories of his presence as that tall kind man I knew as my childhood principal, my classmate''s funny dad who often reminded me of my own father, my mother's "boss" as she taught for years as his collegue, a magical musician that played that big double bass, the cool guy who played bass with Barbie Hughes and all the Ukelle groups she formed over the years, a fun, talented member of the Dixieland Band, my junior and senior high school secretary's husband, my own "boss" and colleague when I became a teacher myself, and a very proud grandfather whenever I spoke to him about his beloved family. Garry has a special place in my heart and will be missed. May your hearts know that in the end, it's all about LOVE, and Garry was and is Loved. My deepest condolences, hugs and kisses sent with Love - Janice (Brown) Forand(Yvonne's daughter & Doug's classmate)xo
