Obituary of Audrey Margaret Goucher-Millett

GOUCHER-MILLETT, Audrey Margaret (Phinney) Age 98, of Windsor, NS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Gladys (MacDonald) Phinney. Audrey graduated from MacDonald High School in Middleton and went on to attend the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax. In 1942, Audrey married Garnet Goucher and they eventually settled in Newport Station to operate a country store, start a donut business and raise a family. Audrey worked at other various jobs until Garnet's passing in 1982. It was at this time that she moved to Windsor. Audrey officially retired in 1984, however, she continued to pursue her love of art. She took many art classes and also taught evening art classes for many years. She was Princess Middleton in the Apple Blossom's fifth Festival in 1937 and in 1975 she conceived the design of "Dan D Apple", which became the official symbol of the festival for 25 years . In 2010 Audrey was the Apple Blossom Festival Honourary Parade Marshall, as she was the oldest living Apple Blossom Princess in the Valley. Audrey was an accomplished artist and her art work has been displayed in many forms from sea to sea. Audrey married her second husband, Lewis Millett, in 1992. They spent their winters in Florida and their summers in Windsor for the next 17 years, until his passing in 2009. Audrey was a member of the Hants Community Hospital Auxiliary, Hants West Historical Society, Windsor United Baptist Church and the Merry Martha's women's group, NASCAD Alumni and the Florida Miniature Art Society. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be missed. Audrey is survived by her children, David (Michelle), Beaudesert, Australia; Judith MacDonald, Halifax; Kathryn Crickmer, Middle Sackville; Brian (Linda), Upper Falmouth; John (Sandra), Crossfield, Alberta; Suzanne Pothier, Falmouth; step-son, Lewis (Chris) Millett, Maitland, Florida; sister, Sheilah Thompson, Middleton; brothers, Richard, Calgary and Ian, Chester Basin; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents, Audrey was predeceased by her first husband, Garnet Goucher; second husband, Lewis Millett; brothers, Vernon and Beldon; sisters, Kathryn Marshall Turner and Jean Dumeah. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Daryl and Pauline Sullivan, doctors and staff at Hants Community Hospital and Audrey's home care workers, Maureen Lothian, Susie White, Marg Gonsalves and Angela Ettinger. Funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating and Rev. Dr. John Bartol assisting.
