Obituary of Ray Osborne McNeil

McNEIL, Ray Osborne Age 76, passed away peacefully at Hants Community Hospital on August 30, 2016 after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. Born in Windsor, he was a son of the late Wilfred "Ted" and Mildred (Smith) McNeil. Ray spent his career with Nova Scotia Power, raising his family in Mount Uniacke. After his retirement, he eventually resettled in Windsor. Ray's greatest love was his family. He was known for his sarcastic wit, his love of Johnny Cash, fishing, golfing and watching sports. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lorraine (Journeay); sons, Shannon (Angela) and Dan (Audra); daughters, Chris, Bonnie House (Kevin); grandchildren, Jordan, Dustin, Sarah, Conor, Megan, Charlie, Dawson, Zoë and Cassidy; brothers, Don, Peter and Edward; sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Heather. He was predeceased by brothers Lloyd and Charlie. Special thanks to Dr. Cathryn Smith and Dr. Paige Stevens. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A funeral service celebrating Ray's life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 12 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. Private family interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. A reception will be held in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ray may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd., B0x 245, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4.
