SCHOFIELD, Carl Elroy
Age 87, of Windsor Forks, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at home. Born February 20, 1929 in Windsor Forks, he was a son of the late Aubrey and Evelyn (Tracey) Schofield.
Carl worked from the time he was a small boy to help support his large family. In 1952, he married Joan and they lived in a small rental home while Carl worked for the Shaw Farm. In 1959, Carl and Joan bought land and built a small home on the site where they resided until his passing. Carl was a carpenter locally and in Halifax for many years until his retirement in the early 1990's. He was an avid gardener and was happiest when he was in the garden or his apple and plum orchards. He grafted many trees and enjoyed showing his children and grandchildren the lost art of grafting. Many will remember dropping in to buy fresh produce and apples and having a chat.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, the former Joan Payzant; daughter, Sherri, Vernon, BC; sons, Harley (Kathy), Windsor Forks; Fred (Charmaine), Brooklyn; Wayne (Paula), Windsor Forks; Darren (Lori), Windsor; brother, Burt, Falmouth; sisters, Vivian (David) Shaw, Windsor Forks; Madeline Fisher, Wolfville; grandchildren, Josh (Amy), Marci (Joey), Wray (Jessie), Nick (Liz), Tara (Brandon), Devon, CJ (Adam), Kyley (Jamie), Jake (Melissa), Issac, Kristin, Trevor (Kristy), Matt (Vicki), Krista (Carly), Dylan (Lydia), Drew; and 19 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by sister, Myrna Whisten and Helen Schofield; brothers, Harley, Douglas, Earl, Ervin and Milton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 9 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre.
