Obituary of Helen Ruth Howell

HOWELL, Helen Ruth It is with great regret and sadness that the family of Helen Howell announces her passing on Saturday, June 3, 2017, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, at the age of 71. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Helen was the daughter of the late Marjorie (Hollahan) Prosper, and was raised by her mother and step-father, the late Henry Prosper. She was the eldest of 12 children, and from an early age was a loving caregiver to her younger siblings. While working at the Stedman Store in Corner Brook, she met the love of her life, David Howell, to whom she was married to for over 51 years, and was blessed by two children, three grandchildren, and a wonderful great-granddaughter. Helen excelled as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was devoted to her family, and her friends with whom she developed her love of crafts, resulting in many loving warm and unique gifts for her family on special occasions. She and David enjoyed travelling whenever possible in parts of Europe, Canada, United States and Caribbean. Their last cruise was completed on April 22, 2017, just prior to Helen's illness. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Helen is survived by her husband, David; son, Vincent (Valerie); daughter, Cynthia; grandson, Adam; granddaughters, Elaine and Christina; great-granddaughter, Maya Lynn; siblings, John (Mary), Marjorie (Gerald), Dorothy (Stephen), Betty (Terry), Terry (Betty Anne), Henry (Sherry), Alice (Victor); as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Tom, Patrick, Sam and Harvey. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor, NS BON 2TO (902-798-8317), where the family will welcome visitors starting at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 8, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel. A service celebrating Helen's life will begin at 2 p.m., Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia or Heart and Stoke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
