SANFORD, Stanley Ellsworth

 

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Stanley Ellsworth Sanford, 92, who passed on January 26, 2018, at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in Avondale, he was the oldest child of the late Charles and Mabel Elsie (Connors) Sanford.

 

Stanley was a veteran of World War II and served overseas.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Hantsport (Past President) and Windsor Branches. He was employed at Minas Basin Pulp and Paper Company, Hantsport, for 41 years, retiring in 1989.  He was a member of Windsor United Church, the United Church Men’s Club, and Newport Jolly Seniors.

 

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris (Patterson); sons, Donnie (Lillian), Waterville; Robert (Beth), Mount Denson; daughter, Lillian (David) Cochrane, Hantsport; grandchildren, Brian (Nicole), Brandon (Tracy), Angie (Nick), Amy (John), Matthew (Kim), and Susan (Tyler); eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Hazel Elliott, June Miller, Jean Salsman, Joan Custance, Marilyn MacPhee, Marina Bowes, and Sharon Greber. 

 

Stanley was predeceased by his brother, Lester; and sister, Marie DeMont.

 

The family wishes to convey a very grateful & heartfelt thank you to the special staff of Wallace Place, Dykeland Lodge.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor, NS (902-798-8317).  A funeral service celebrating Stanley’s life will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 31 in the DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Stanley can be made to Dykeland Lodge, 124 Cottage Street, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902) 798-8346.
