Obituary of Clementina I.C. Rawding

RAWDING, Clementina Ida Carolina "Tina" - 87, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2012, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by her family. Born in Herentals, Belgium, she was a daughter of the late Jules and Celine (Laenen) Brams. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.Surviving are a son, Manson Rawding Jr. (Jacqueline) and their son, Vincent Rawding, Halifax; daughters, Yvette Rawding, Bridgewater; Yvonne Best, Aylesford East; sisters-in-law, Alberta Brams Verlinden, Herentals, Belgium; Ruby Rawding, Grand View Manor, Berwick; Audrey Davis, Enfield; nephew, Julien and his family, Herentals, Belgium; extended family in Canada and Belgium.Tina was fluent in her native language, Flemish and was a graduate of the 'Instituut Femina' (a School for dress design) in Brussels, Belgium in 1944. She came to Canada as a war bride aboard the Lady Nelson in September of 1946, and was a member of the Nova Scotia War Brides Association. She attended several conventions and reunions of the war brides in Nova Scotia. Tina was a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, Berwick, where she had been a member of the former church auxiliary and was the first president of the C.W.L. She spent countless hours working in support of the Church and its various functions. Tina was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick, where again she volunteered her time supporting the many events. She enjoyed time spent playing her auto harp, reading, knitting, embroidering and doing crafts. Tina was a professional seamstress and had a passion for sewing and had taught sewing in the adult education program for many years in both Berwick and Millville. She had also taught sewing to children in her home. Tina and her late husband enjoyed travelling across Canada, the United States and made regular trips to Europe. She was very proud of her home and supportive of her family and happy of the accomplishments of her children. Her grandson was a special joy to her. Tina was a kind giving person and everything throughout her life was done with a sense of pride and compassion.Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Manson E. Rawding; son-in-law, Calvin Best; brothers, Remy, Frederick, Ernest and Mauritz; sisters, Josephine and Victorina.Arrangements have been entrusted to Bryce Johnstone of DeMont Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service (902-538-8317). Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m., Thursday evening in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Parish Centre, 120 Mill St., Berwick, beginning with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m., followed by Royal Canadian Legion Service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, August 3, in the church. Rev. Fr. Craig Cameron officiating, with burial in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
