I always had the utmost respect for Les and loved hearing from him and visiting with him. He likely played one of the largest roles in the early days of our Dept. His knowledge and hands-on skills resulted in NS being leader in many things such as fire trucks, pumps, fire fighting equipment, staffing, training, communications, cooperation with community fire brigades, Christmas tree production, seedling production, tree improvement, exotic trees, wildlife park development, and so much more. He certainly was deserving of being an early inducted into our Forestry Hall of Fame.
I have trees thriving on our personal property that Les has give me over the years from his exotic selection which will continue to remind me of the fine person he was with the ready grin and twinkle in his eye...
He certainly had a full and productive life and will be greatly missed.
Take care.

I can't remember when we first started going to the christmas tree lot on the lake out the Chester road. It was a family day as many of us went and trekked around to find that perfect tree of which there were many. We also got an education as Les would gladly tell you the origin of the tree you selected. He had many different types of fir and bred them with each other. We dubbed his lot Christmas tree heaven and i have no doubt he is looking after Christmas tree heaven still. We have friends that meet us at Heather and Erics for a tree every year its tradition for us. Our thoughts and prayers are with all.

To Les' Family:
I met Les and Betty on my very first job working with the (then) NS Forest Products Association. While there, I helped Les print the Lunenburg County Christmas tree producers newsletter. That's a number of years ago but not forgotten. My husband and I have visited Les and continued to exchange Christmas cards for several years, which allowed us to keep in touch. He was an exceptional fellow who worked for the good of the Christmas tree industry. He will be missed.
Please know you are in our thoughts at this difficult time. Sincere condolences to each of you.

Sherry and I were sad to hear of Les's passing. He was such a great guy, full of life and stories, and always a true friend.
We will always remember the annual Christmas tree race from Town Road to Les's back yard. Beth driving the truck with plow and flashing light, Kathy running to Betty with the cheque, and John throwing the tree in the truck, then home to Town Road proudly showing the tree to Sherry. Best time ever - 4 minutes, 15 seconds. What a memory.
We will always remember them both.

It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Leslie. Daniel, Amanda and Glenys enjoyed spending time in
their youth playing cards with him at the cottage. He told me the family could use the lake but with three rules.
Make sure to clean up after ourselves, Keep an eye on the children and do not bring a huge crowd of people.
Every year he would be there to help with a Xmas tree and I missed him once he could no longer be there.
I will think of him every time I walk the paths of the tree lot.
With sympathy.

Please accept our sincere condolences in the passing of your loved one, Les. My Mom and I both worked with Les, years ago, and could not have asked for a better boss! His stories were entertaining...……..and he had many! He was always a joy to be around and was one of the smartest men I ever met. When my Mom passed away he gifted me with a Crimson King maple tree, which stands in my front yard today and has grown into the most beautiful tree on my property. I will plant another tree, now in his memory.
