I would like to pass on my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ron Spencer. Hi passing into spirit must be a very emotional time for all those who knew him. I first met Ron in person in Gjoa Haven, N.W.T. before it became Nunavut. He was working in the Co-op store and we got talking about our past. Ron's Dad was Willie Spencer who worked for the Hudson's Bay Company store in Fort George along side my father, Lloyd Strome. Dad worked for the Bay from 1941-1955 and Willie was an integral part of his life. We invited Ron for dinner and spent the majority of the visit talking about everything we knew about each others' families for hours. I was thrilled that Ron shared photos of those years with me and I shared those same photos with my family who were very surprised and thrilled. Dad mentioned a number of times that Willie was a critical part of the HBC team at Fort George because he knew so many people in the community as well as the intricacies of how the outpost operated. We talked about the dances, celebrations, and life in such a small village during those challenging years. Ron impressed me as being a very socially concerned citizen and helped out in any way he could to make Canada a better place for everyone. Ron and I had recently communicated about visiting each other but the issue about COVID was a concern. Please know that I will put down tobacco in his honour and I will always remember Ron for the great individual that he was. Meegwitch.
