FORMER MUNICIPAL CLERK FOR WEST HANTS PASSES AWAY HALEY, Roy William Of Garlands Crossing, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, one month shy of his 85th birthday. He was a son of the late Walter and Hilda (Underwood) Haley. Roy was a graduate of Windsor Academy and worked briefly with Maritime Marshlands before having a thirty-year career with the Municipality of the District of West Hants, retiring in 1991 as Municipal Clerk. In his retirement he enjoyed some overseas travel and owned and operated J.W. Mason and Sons (2013) Limited for a few years. Roy was a long-time supporter of the Liberal Party of Canada and of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Trustee and Chairperson of the Board of Managers. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maudie (MacRae) Haley and children, Sherry and Michael. He is also survived by his sisters, Maude Delahunt, Pearl (Morris) Williams; brother, Dr. Leslie (Lorraine) Haley; and many special nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by siblings, Gordon, Percy, Marjory (James) Melvin, Lewis, Frank, Walter and Earl (Dorothy) Haley. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private funeral service will be held Friday, January 15 in St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Windsor, Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Attendance is by invitation only due to current COVID-19 restrictions. A webcast recording of the service is available now (please see below). Private interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Roy may be made to Palliative Care Program at Hants Community Hospital, Nova Scotia Diabetes Association, Canadian Paraplegic Association of Nova Scotia or a charity of one’s choice.
