Obituary of Lorna Frances Jones
Please share a memory of Lorna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 71, of Three Mile Plains, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 in the Halifax Infirmary Site, QEII, Halifax. Born August 17, 1949 in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Ida (Swinimer) Caldwell.
The youngest of five, Lorna grew up in Three Mile Plains, loving everything outdoors and all animals and the animals really loved her. After graduating high school, she moved to Toronto to live with her sister and to work at CN. Over the next few years, she made many lifelong Ontario friends, including the friend who insisted Lorna go on a blind date with her husband’s best friend. That was the day she met the love of her life.
Chris and Lorna were married in Toronto in 1973. A little over three years later, their son, Kevin was born. Deciding to raise their family outside of the city, they packed up and moved to Halifax for a couple years. From there, they moved to Newport Corner and in 1980 their daughter, Christina, was born. In 1981, they settled in Windsor where they remained until 2018 when they moved to a more accessible home in Three Mile Plains. Moving to the community she grew up in, Lorna said she had come full circle.
In the early 80’s, Lorna started her career at a local law firm in Windsor where she developed her legal secretary skills. From there, she went on to her career with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court as a judicial assistant to several Supreme Court Justices. She also served as a Justice of the Peace, performing many marriage ceremonies. Lorna was well respected by all the judges and all her peers, many of whom are still dear friends today. Two of those special friends were by her side the morning of her passing, sharing many wonderful memories. The family thanks them for their presence.
Lorna was a lover all things fine. Fine food, fine jewelry, shoes and clothes. She absolutely loved shopping - that was her cardio. She loved playing Scrabble with her daughter or her best friend, always up for a challenge. Lorna also enjoyed playing cards, reading, watching The View and painting. She painted for over 30 years with a small group of friends, the LB Painters.
Lorna loved many things, but first and foremost, she loved her family dearly. Her siblings were very special to her, they had an unwavering bond. Lorna was proud of all her children and was the best mom anyone could ever ask for. Lastly, she loved her incredibly devoted husband with all her heart. Their love for each other was unmistakeable and admired by all. After 47 years of marriage, both Chris and Lorna would tell you that going on that blind date so many years ago was the best decision of their lives.
Lorna is survived by her loving husband, Chris Jones; sons, Kevin (Emily) Jones and Wayne Spork; daughter, Christina (Brandon) Jones; furry children, Billy Bob and Miss Marley; grandchildren, Cameron Jones, Sonya Bruce and Jessica Spork; sisters, Margaret (Doug) Raney, Bette (late Arthur) Williams, Muriel (Jim) Cross; brother, Ernie (Ellen) Caldwell; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many fabulous friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of unit 4.1, especially vascular surgeon Dr. Lee and CCA Peter, at the QEII hospital for their exceptional care given to Lorna during these past few months. As well as, the homecare nursing from the VON.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
