HALEY (Lawson), Helen Berdice
Age 91 of Windsor, formerly of South Rawdon, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 31, 2021, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born August 19, 1929 in South Rawdon she was a daughter of the late Wilfred “Hedley” and Helen “Alberta” (McLearn) Lawson.
Helen will be missed by her husband of 67 years, Leslie; brother, David (Tena); sister-in-law, Selma; daughters, Valerie (Terry) Lynds; Janice (André Boudreault); sons, Alan (Rosie); Blair (Lynda) and special son, Darcy Marshall; grandchildren, Karen, April, Robyn, Beth and Andrew; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Wilfred and his wife, Geraldine; George and sisters-in-law, Rose and Gladys.
Helen was an RN, graduating from Halifax Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 as valedictorian. At age 13 she accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour. She was an active member of the South Rawdon Baptist Church the rest of her life, where she served as Clerk, Choir Director, Moderator, taught Sunday School and was also the organist for 45 plus years. She was involved in the Eastern Valley Baptist Association. She was a big supporter of Kingswood Camp. She was an active member of Atlantic Baptist Women, Women’s Missionary Society, Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia, East Hants Tourism Association and South Rawdon Museum Society and much more.
Awards she received during her life include: Provincial Volunteer for East Hants (1994) and 21-year Appreciation Certificate for Foster Parenting.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, September 5 in South Rawdon Baptist Church, Rev. Alex Mosher and Rev. Dustin Day officiating. COVID-19 protocols will be followed.
