LEWIS (Saunders), Joan Diane
Age 81, of Windsor, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, August 1, 2021 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born May 25, 1940 in Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Melburne and Madeline (Mearns) Saunders.
Joan grew up in Curry’s Corner and attended Windsor Academy, later went to Boston, Massachusetts, to study Electrology; eventually having five offices at the height of her much-loved career. Retirement brought great joy of spending time with family and friends. She was a vivacious and outgoing person, who enjoyed traveling and the finer things in life. Joan was a woman of strong faith and character, wonderful mother and was dedicated to her children and family. She’ll be remembered by her beautiful smile and wonderful caring kind heart. Joan was loved by many people and will be missed.
Joan is survived by her husband, Harold “Budd” Lewis; daughters, Linda (Jose) Armstrong, Janet Armstrong and Doreen Butler; step children, Shannon Holman, Tashya (Alan) Dunn, Loretta Lewis and Jeff Lewis; grandchildren, Allison, Daniel, Murray, Tara, Terrence, Sophia and Madeline; step grandchildren, Jordan, Vashti, Brandon, Bryan, Bradley, Justin, Jason, Jacob, Jessie, Scott and Jodie; great grandchildren, Natalie, Morgan, Landon and Rayna.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone at Dykeland Lodge for all their support and care, especially during Joan’s stay in palliative care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a private family service will be held. A public graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 7 in Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King St., Windsor, Pastor Maria Sikal officiating. COVID-19 health protocols will be followed. If necessary, please bring your own chair and umbrella. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, 112-2719 Gladstone St., Halifax, NS B3K 4W6 or Glad Tidings Worship Centre, 5398 Chester Rd., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
