Obituary of Joan Louise Barkhouse
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 78, of Falmouth, formerly of Newport Corner, passed away peacefully in the Windsor Elms Village, on Monday September 13, 2021, with family by her side. Born on October 2, 1942, in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Lottie (Wile) Peach.
She and Ronnie married young and had five children that they were so proud of. After her youngest son started school, she went to work at Dykeland Lodge in the dietary department for many years, until a car accident prevented her from returning. She and Ronnie enjoyed many trips later in life, Nashville, Newfoundland, Missouri but their favourite was the month-long cross Canada trip to celebrate their 50th anniversary. She was a faithful wife for 61 years until Ronnie’s passing, a devoted mother and a wonderful Nannie to her grandchildren. Joan kept beautiful gardens, was always up for a day of shopping, her “Frenchy’s” finds usually were meant for her family, and she loved feeding her family who misses those delicious Christmas dinners. No one cooked a turkey like Mom. Dementia robbed our mother of her memories and life and we’re thankful she is no longer in its grasp.
Joan is survived by sons, Danny (Sharon), Michael (Lisa), Murray (Atasha), daughter, Jennifer (Clyde) DeWolfe; daughter-in-law, Annette Barkhouse; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother, John (Rosanne) Peach; sisters, Betty Beckwith and Linda (Gordon) Boyd.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ronnie (2020); son, Terry (2018); brother, Wayne (Doris) Peach; sister-in-law, Brenda (Roger) Simm; brother-in-law, Richard Beckwith.
The family wishes to thank the Windsor Elms, especially the “angels in scrubs” of Meadowview, House 3, for their wonderful care and love they showed our Mom, especially throughout the pandemic.
