I am so sorry to hear of Mac’s passing. My sympathy to his family and friends. Though we did not see each other much over the years, Mac was my very good friend throughout high school: loyal, supportive and with a strong appreciation of justice. After high school he even got me a job which helped me through a tough time. I have always felt honoured to have known him. In addition to being scarily clever he was an extremely talented musician. Sounds like he used his time well over his life, offering his talents and guidance to many. Rest In Peace my friend.

So sad to hear of Mac's passing. He was my best friend during all my years at Horton District High. We were in the same grade seven class, joined band together, were in the NS Regimental band together, did Scotia Brass together, band trips to NY and Finland, band camps, skipped school to go on various photo shoots together, skipped class to play chess in the band room together. We lost touch with each other after high school. Rest in peace my friend.

I knew Mac from band activities in High School. He was a very talented musician and was well-respected by his peers. He could be very witty and always seemed to maintain a calm, cool and collected attitude on band trips. I am happy to read about all his accomplishments and that he shared all his talents with so many. I am saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.

I wish to offer my sincerest condolences to Mac's family and friends. Though we had grown apart phycially, he always remained close in my memories. We had shared in the development of a number of young men and women with 2444 Army Cadets, he left his mark and he will be missed. Until we meet again my friend.

Our condolences. I knew Mac through Horton High School, and thorough common interest in High School band. He went further with his French Horn than I went with my Tuba. :-)
I submitted a photo taken in 2006, at an impromptu Horton High School Band re-union that came together when our Band conductor, Paul Niemesto, came back to Nova Scotia for a visit that year
Glad to see that he seems to have led a full and fulfilling life.

Murray, Joanna and Carolene,
I'm truly shocked and saddened by Mac's passing. Mac and I had many common interests, military history, guns, shooting, airplanes, photography fishing etc. Way back years ago, Mac would pick me up at midnight and we'd spend the wee hours of the morning at the gun club shooting boxes of ammo with no one to bother us. Mac would be full of witty one liners and have me laughing so hard I could hardly aim and hit my target. I helped him take pictures at a wedding once, although he was by far the expert. I was more like Igor the gaffer. Ha! I will always cherish those memories. Mac is gone way too soon and as his cousin, I am just realizing how much I will miss him. And I only saw him every now and then, so I can only imagine your sorrow. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and sympathy. Take happiness in knowing all the hearts that Mac has touched and the difference he made in the children he taught. He was truly a great person.

Condolences to "Mr. Bishop's" family. He was a kind teacher always willing to share his extra time to those who needed it or to those who simply enjoyed the same hobbies as he. Junior High memories will be reminisced.

i was so sad to hear about Mac's passing. While he was at Digby Neck Consolidated, he and I had a lot of laughs. The kids all loved him, and would laugh when he would take a "nap" in class. He established a Beaver, Cubs and Scouts regimen at the school, as we are a ways from Digby.
Murray, take care dear, and remember the good times you had with your father.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mac Bishop was my teacher in jr and sr high in the 90's and early 2000's. I recall he taught history and was talking about some royal family in some country or another, and talking about the indiscretions and intrigues of royal court life. I remember he used to refer to those late night intrigues as "they were playing scrabble" late into the night and it made us laugh. And it was just such a hilarious euphemism it stuck among the class for a long while.
He was an excellent teacher, who tried always to connect with his students. I know I am lucky to have had him as a teacher.
My deepest condolences.

I am saddened to read of Mac"s passing. As a former neighbor and friend in New Minas and throughout High School I have many wonderful memories of sharing Mac's love of music and his amazing talents on the French Horn. We spent many years in the music program at Horton and thoroughly enjoyed the Band trips to far and wide. His influences will be felt for many years to come. My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this wonderful man. Be at peace my friend.
