Obituary of Maureen Elizabeth Catherine Lowthers

Please share a memory of Maureen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LOWTHERS (Condon), Maureen Elizabeth Catherine It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maureen, on Friday, November 19, 2021 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, after a long battle with illness. Born on October 16, 1953 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late David Jerome (who affectionately referred to her as “Bonny-Sue” based on a doll he gave her) and Marjorie Jean (Mitchell) Condon. Maureen loved to play darts, dance, bowl, seamstress/sewing and her phone gab sessions. She loved her jewelry collection and when anyone dropped in for tea at the kitchen table, which was where most visits took place, Maureen would say “Dale will you get my jewelry chest!” and to everyone’s surprise out would come Dale, lugging this chest on legs and then returning it to the bedroom once everyone got a look at the newest acquisition. Dale did not mind at all as he has said “She’s my girl”. Maureen used to love to paint “The Little House” to such an extent that you never really knew what color the walls, especially the kitchen cupboards, were going to be but it was always finished before anyone dropped in to visit. She loved country music, in particular Johnny Reid, and once seated for the usual cup of tea the CD played and she loved the whole thing. On the other hand, there was a bit of a musical family feud as Dale’s preference is Blue Grass/Gospel. She was happiest when socializing with her family around her. Her proudest moments were achieving her GED and eventually utilizing this to gain her accreditation as a Certified Care Assistant (CCA) at the age of 50. She is survived by husband, Dale; sons, Jason (Trisha); Jonathan (Heather); granddaughter, Tori; sister, Cynthia (David) Clark; brothers, Michael (Barbara); Stephen (Pat Harrie); Scott (Tanya); dear aunt and uncle, Jean and Ronnie Mitchell; nephew and nieces, Cory (Pam), Carrie (Louie) Smith, Shannah, Abigail and Megan; great-nephew and niece, Craig and Lucy; several aunts, uncles, cousins and their families; step-grandmother, Eileen (MacKay) Mitchell; mother-in-law, Constance “Connie” Lowthers. Besides her parents, Maureen was predeceased by grandfather, Josiah George Mitchell; his first wife, Mary Alice Mitchell (Nannie to us); sister, Sandra Lynn Leighton (Dalton Sanford); aunt and uncle, Anna and Russell; nephew, Craig Clark; her best friend, Sandra Ross and her beloved Yorkie, Georgie. We would like to thank the Staff of Palliative Care at Hants Community Hospital and kudos to Dale and the CBI Homecare Team while Maureen was at home. We could not believe the level of care given to Maureen during her home and hospital stay. Thank you to the many friends who faithfully visited during this time, especially Cindy Ross, Mickey Brown and David and Heather Porter. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be a public graveside service held in Ste. Croix Cemetery on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maureen may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 (902-423-6183).
