Dear Janet, Nancy and everyone,
I am sorry to hear about Tip’s passing this week.
Tip and Lois were such kind and generous folks, and special friends of our family.
I have so many fond memories of playing with Tip over the years, starting with the Dixieland Band and Punch back in the 80s, and then the Big Band after that. I loved how Tip would throw in a little trivia about each song he was about to sing – a real student of Jazz history. And I will miss his greeting whenever he saw me, “Well there’s Doctor Don!”
I’m posting a pic from a going away party that he and Lois threw for Steph and me as we headed off to Toronto for grad school in 1987, just another example of how kind and thoughtful they always were. Lots of love, Don

Dear Janet and Nancy and all the family.
Your Mom and Dad were so special to our family from the first meeting when we arrived in town.
Always a smile and I will especially miss Tips ...bear hugs. It's hard to let go of such good
friends but we must. We will always remember them with smiles and love in our hearts.
They were so lucky and blessed to have their 'family' so close to enjoy the growing up years.
They loved you all so much and that is evident in the many photos...what treasures .

To the entire Taylor family, young and not so old, Christine and I are sending our condolences in the passing of Tip. It was been a joy to have know Tip and Lois over the years, but for
Tip his presence and voice in the choir will be greatly missed. His humour, sometimes edgy will always resonate and bring a smile. Tip was always complementary and supportive to others in the musical world. One memory I will share is a variety show Tip and Bill Gibson did that almost brought the church down around everyones ears with their rather wild humour. If you were not there to have witnessed their presentation you are fortunate. Only Bill might remember the exact drama.
Blessings to all of the Taylor clan and you are in our prayers.

Dear Nancy, Janet, and families:
Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dad Tip. He was such a great guy and our relationship goes back to the early 70's when we worked together planning and building the Avon Valley Golf Course and through my in and out times with the Windsor Gyro Club over the past 50 years. I am so glad we had a visit and an interesting book interview just before he died. He was a good friend and will be sorely missed in the community.

Joan and I are very sad to learn of the passing of Tip. I have been a close friend of Tip's since the mid 1950's, when we worked together in Montreal, and Joan joined me in this friendship with Tip and Lois in 1962 when we were married. Tip and I also had a very close interest in Music. Over the years, we visited Tip and Lois many times in Nova Scotia either at a summer cottage or the Taylor home. Our two girls, Jill and Sue, also became friends of the Taylor girls, Janet, Nancy and Susan during these visits. To Janet and Nancy, please accept our sincere condolences.

Sorry to hear that Tip has passed. As a young pro shop employee I remember walking the back nine with Tip and the course architect , thinking I was important , as he asked my opinion of the design of the new holes . He was always kind to all us young pro shop workers and later in life he wrote a letter of reference for me so that a kid with a 52 average in grade 12 could get accepted to Acadia University. I thought he was the most powerful man in the world. My condolences to the family, he will be missed but remembered for all that he impacted in the town of Windsor.

I’ll always remember Tip as an original, I mean, he played banjo a long time before the banjo was hip and he was a crooner (band Christmas concerts), a long time before Lady Gaga recorded with Tony Bennet! Janet and Nancy, Colin and I were so sad to hear of your dad’s passing. I remember when our family first moved to Windsor and how welcome your mom and dad made Susan and me feel. A memory I have of your parents were the cars your dad would bring home for your mom to drive. There was one car in particular that I thought was really cool (to a 16 year old). It was a flashy orange and I’m not sure if it had two or four doors but I remember your mom not sharing my admiration for the vehicle. It really wasn’t what you would consider a “family” car! Hugs to you both. Hold those cherished memories tight.

Tip was the patriarch of one of the many Windsor families (Taylors, Murleys, Johnstons, Smiths, etc) who were bonded by music and friendship for as long as I can remember. As Peter Johnston mentions in his eloquent condolences posted here, we were lucky to grow up in this wonderful musical community, surrounded by so much love and support. It goes without saying that Tip was central to this community. His and Lois’ generously, whether hosting jam sessions at Evangeline Beach or Christmas Carol sings at their home, will never be forgotten, even though there are more more laughs and good times than anyone can remember!
I am so glad that I had the chance to visit with Tip during my trip home last summer. He was in good spirits as always. I know how proud he was of his large extended family. What a wonderful legacy he leaves. Heartfelt condolences to Janet and Nancy and all of the Taylor clan.

The importance of Tip and Lois Taylor to the Johnston family cannot be put into words, nor can our debt to them for their kindness to us all ever be repaid. For Helen and I, Tip and Lois were like local grandparents, as they were always there to care for us when our parents were busy. We surely spent more time with them than with our actual grandparents when we were children and loved them both as if they were family. We were so blessed to be born into a community that was filled with music and love, and neither of us can remember a party or gathering in Windsor that wasn't full of music and singing. For better or worse, Tip and the rest of the Centennial Dixieland Jazz Band made it seem like a good idea to pursue a life in music - growing up with Tip, Garry, Cy, Charlie and B Flat around impressed upon me that the financial precarity of life as a musician was more than offset by the fun and fellowship you could have making music with your friends. The deep friendship and dedication they all had to each other showed me what is important in life, and I have tried to pay that forward in my own relationships. I'll be forever grateful for Tip's encouragement of my youthful music-making, from giving me a harmonica when I expressed an interest in Bob Dylan, to passing on a stack of Count Basie LPs when I joined a traveling swing bad, to making space for me around the campfire at Evangeline Beach as I tried to play 4-chord songs on the ukelele when I only knew 3 chords. Helen and I will always cherish our time spent with the Taylor family, and I'm certain that our parents feel like they couldn't have raised us as they did without Tip and Lois. As Helen and I are now both teachers, I can say with certainty that the lessons in kindness, compassion, and music we learned by just being around Tip and Lois will be passed on to our students. The love and care they showed us will live on, and we will never forget them.
