You know that you are a special teacher when your family talks about you at the dinner table. My brother and I would be entertained by his words and outside the box thinking. We would talk about his opinions and agree with most. I remember how he challenged me to think on my own and look deeper. I remember him wearing a dress shirt and tie but always having the tie loose. He would come inside from smoking and say, “ Don’t smoke! “ All the kids would gather in and around his classroom knowing that they would be accepted and spoken to during breaks. I remember his stories about being a teenager. It was hard for me to believe he was a teenager. I loved that he often played music in his class during breaks. Always Remembered and one of the best.

Mr. Connolly, was one of the teachers who has a positive lasting impact on me. I remember so many great things from his classes, as well as, Self Discipline lines. I changed my schedule up and took extra classes to have him as teacher throughout my Hants West expirence. He expected quality work from us and had no hesitation in letting his students know when they didn't live up to expectations. Without a doubt he had a tremendous impact on all of his students.
My heartfelt condolences to his family on the loss of this excellent man

Wow! What a Rollercoaster of a Ride Life has been for my former Political Science Teacher (Brucey) at Hants West Rural High. He was a Hoot and a half and by far my favorite teacher ever. He taught in a tacky "Purple Room" # 224. His love for the Rolling Stones spread throughout the classroom. I always used to see him (as most did) at the Sobey's in Windsor. Also he was at our High School reunion in 2011 upstairs at the Spitfire. I always enjoyed his one-liners. (jokes) We will definitely Honour Bruce (former Head Coach of the Hants West Flames) next yr at the Brooklyn Rink between HWRH vs WRHS. Thumbs Up Bruce!! Cheers to all the funny times at Hants West Rural High.

I was a student of Mr. Connolly in the 80’s at HWRH. Mr. Connolly was unlike any other teacher I ever had. We all loved him. I couldn’t wait to get to class and listen to his stories of his times in university, his entrepreneurial experiences, Montreal football games, his girls, the Stones and politics. I remember skipping school to fine tune an assignment for his class because I wanted to really impress him. His tests/exams were as legendary as his stories. I vividly recall him testing us on the captions in the text book. Made me pay attention the next time! He challenged me, made me laugh and motivated me to be a teacher. What a legend! Some of my best HWRH memories involved Mr. C.
Michelle and Angie (his girls), their families and to his partner, Bonnie: May you draw comfort in the expressions of love and admiration from those he connected with. I bet he and Charlie Watts are exchanging some tall tales right now. Rest in Peace Mr. C!

I was a student at Hants West Rural High School in 1973.That is a long time ago. I have a vivid memory of two teachers that arrived at Hants West that year. One of those teachers was Randy Matheson and the other was none other than Bruce Connolly. I still remember Bruce wore a Sir George Williams University jacket. Bruce was a good teacher and students liked Bruce. I would like to express my sincere condolences to Bonnie and the Family.

Bonnie, you were Bruce's friend, companion and support. Thank you for being there for him. As well as my friend, he was a character, never shy about voicing his opinions. I will not forget the infamous statement, said mostly for its humorous effect, that he couldn't stand the"bleedin' heart liberals crying about the endangered whales. We've got them on video, don't we?" That was classic Bruce. Occasionally, he would call me to flesh out his repertoire of jokes for "the girls" at the bakery.
Ash Brown has written an excellent tribute to Bruce in a wonderful poem. I encourage all to seek it out.

The last time I saw him was just a few weeks ago... he was already unwell, but still feeling as miserable as he said he did he was telling jokes & making me laugh! He would say "Girl, have I told you this one?" I will never ever forget that smile and laugh, only Old Man could go out with that kind of impact! Bruce, I will never ever forget the Fugowe tribe and I will share that insightful knowledge of them every chance I get! Thank you for always being you & sharing your light with us all!

Bruce was a one of a kind teacher and his big personality made him memorable. One of my most vivid memories from school is having him drag my desk to the front of the class stating “You are celery, no one talks to celery and celery talks to no one” for talking during SSR. I’ve also had occasional run ins with him in the community over the years and rarely was I able to resist getting caught up in one of his jokes. He will be missed!
My sincere condolences to his family and friends!

Sorry for your lose. Bruce was my teacher at Hants West and I will remember him all my life for his jokes and challenging me in class to do better. Later in life we always would say hi when we would meet , a joke or two and how do. He will be missed.
