I worked with Doug for many years at Minas Basin and Acadia , he was a great friend and co - worker who

Doug and I were friends for years growing up. I use to bike about 5 miles to his place on the weekends to work with him on his families vegetable stand. Even after I moved away we still exchanged Christmas cards and I'd pop in to visit him while on vacation back home. Doug was a good man. He had a disability, but that never stopped him from getting an education and succeeding at his job. Smitty was very trustworthy, as part of his terrific character. He deserved a better life than fate gave him, but you'd never hear him complain about it. That just wasn't part of his makeup. I always enjoyed making him laugh and he seemed to love my crazy sense of humour. No one laughed as hard as Smitty did. Sorry I didn't get to say good-bye Doug and even more sorry not to have told you what a valuable friend you were growing up. My condolences to his sisters Lisa and Dianne. Like I said, your brother was a good and honest man! Lisa if you could find the time, I'd love to hear from you.

I am heartbroken to read of Doug's Obituary- had no idea he was sick. I still miss Barb so much and I know one thing - Doug was so kind just like his Mom .He will be missed by many Friends. . Barb and I got closer ( thats what cousins usually do ) in our later years. To Doug’s family
I don’t know you all but knew doug well over the years we would share a chat here and there a beer at the black bear and always had a lot of laughs in between . Doug was kind hearted and always had sound advice as I was a few years younger than him. I will remember his smile and laugh of a good joke . Rest easy Doug I will always be grateful for our friendship thru the years . To his family I want to send my condolences as losing a brother like Doug will be a hard one as he loves his family so much. Take care of each other and think of Doug as your Guardian angel.

So shocked to hear of Doug’s passing. I worked with him for years at the mill, and would often see him walking around town and would stop for a chat. Not a bad thing could be said about him. He was always smiling and laughing. He will be missed by many. Gone too soon….
