To Pat's Family,
I'm writing on behalf of the Kings Hants Heritage Connection...a regional affiliation of heritage groups and individuals working collectively to advance the causes of heritage in Kings and West Hants. For many years our group benefited from the impressive skills that Pat brought to the table as a representative of the regional development authority in West Hants, and various heritage groups from the county. She was not just a thinker but a doer and always provided the example of a thoughtful, commonsense, practical approach to our many projects. On a personal note she became a good friend to many of us that were lucky enough to work with her over the years. Our deepest sympathy is extended to you all at her loss. Sincerely, Bria Stokesbury (Secretary of KHHC).

Heartfelt condolences to you on the passing of your beautiful, loving mother and friend.
I first had the pleasure of meeting your mother at a very young age when I joined Brownies at the Newport Baptist Church in Scotch Village and have many fond memories of her during my school years and adult life. She was a great motivation and a spark in my life.
You're all in my heart, thoughts and prayers.
God bless,

When I learned of Pat’s passing I was speechless. Which was rather ironic because when Pat and I were together neither one of us was ever at a loss for words.
Pat’s humble, down home personality often masked the breadth of knowledge she had a vast range of topics. That’s what made conversation easy for her. She made people in her surroundings feel comfortable, always like level friend. Her quest for knowledge and learning meant she had amassed an understanding of a great many topics and was always able to add an insight applicable to any given area of consequence.
She loved problem solving and thinking out of the box. Maybe that’s why she loved her BlackBerry so much. She was not one for mainstream cookie cutter things.
When Pat and I had a chat, it probably would have left others dizzy. As we often started down one path, then parleyed onto another related topic, then filled in a few details on that topic with seven minor asides before forgetting what we started talking about in the first place. But some how or another one of us would remember where we began so we could go back to the beginning and finish the point that we were trying to make in the first place. It often reminded me of the genealogy charts she loved to explore.
She was no stranger to charts and graphics. Her skills to organize wove their way through many of the communities lived in.
Many knew Pat, if not by name, by face of a person in their neighborhood. She had touched many people in Hants County. Some may know her by interactions face to face and others may be unaware that part of their daily surroundings was due to Pat’s touch. Like the flowers at their feet, the tree above them giving shade or the signs that guide them on a walk to name but a few.
Although Pat had a dedicated career, and strong drive for community volunteerism, she was most dedicated to family. She delighted in sharing stories of the family she held most dear. I heard many stories of her parents, the Aunts, the Terrys and assorted family members near and far. But the majority of her family delights were tales of her children and grandchildren. Jo’s smarts, Brenda’s organizational talents and John Allen’s family pranks and never ending energy. She cared so much for her grandchildren and wanted her time with them to be meaningful to each of them individually. I recall dinner with Elizabeth and fairy lights in the trees and Lego engineering with Patrick and only “healthy” cookies would do for her visit with James. Pat had felt so blessed to have two loving husbands. She had room in her life to love both Jim and Bill. I would always share tales of their many talents. She appreciated both of them. Jim may not have been an expert carpenter but she delighted in telling about his ability to reuse and restore, oh and how he’d lose his tools too. Bill was her rock, always supporting her and gently guiding her with a witty sense of humour to lighten the load. Thanks to Bill she learned you are supposed to call out the answers to Jeopardy even from your TV room.
I will grieve and miss the new conversations Pat and I will no longer have. But everyday I will be able to watch the squirrels and the birds and remember the crazy critter stories of the backyard characters her and Bill would watch. And every season she’ll be with me as I remember her garden advice on when to plant and what to prune and when to harvest. And every time I watch one of her plants she shared with me come to life again and every time I then share one of those sends or shoots with someone else, I’ll be reminded of the beauty of the circle of life and how Pat’s knowledge continues to teach and Pat’s nurturing continues to support growth and Pat’s love continues to make this world a better place.
Cheers to the essence of spring and thank you Pat for you.
