Obituary of Garnet Michael Lewis Connors
It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Garnet Michael Lewis Connors, age 71, of Brooklyn, Hants County, after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with family by his side. Garnet was born on September 14, 1951 in Windsor and was a son of the late Lewis and Lillian (Bonang) Connors.
Garnet spent the majority of his childhood in Miller’s Creek and Woodville, where he could be found causing mischief. He kept this spark of mischievousness throughout his life and it was often ignited as his humour and shenanigans never stopped. Garnet started his working career at Halliday’s in Dartmouth, followed by several years working for his brother at CD Connors Meats, before settling in at Payzant’s Building Products in Sackville for 22 years. He and Carolyn then ventured into co-ownership of Mantua Cash and Carry for two years, before retirement. After retirement, Garnet continued to apply his craft skills, performing many small jobs for his family and in the community.
Garnet was an avid outdoorsman and could be found in the woods or on a lake 12 months of the year. He enjoyed time with family and friends, never missing a function (unless it was during hunting season). Garnet enjoyed several road trips with his family and later in his life a Caribbean Cruise, Disney Trips and multiple moose hunting trips to NFLD and Cape Breton with Mike. His grandchildren always lit up his room and he would go to any length to ensure they felt loved and were spoiled, no matter the occasion.
Garnet’s dedication to the church was everlasting and he was a devoted member of the Uniacke Masonic Lodge #128 for the majority of his life.
He is survived by wife of 53 years, Carolyn (McGill) Connors; daughters, Christine (Gordie) Spencer, Wanda (Mike) Forsyth and Cynthia Theriault; son, Michael (Ashley) Connors; grandchildren, McKenzie, Grace, Abigail, Chloe and Charlie. He is also survived by brother, Charlie (Delina) Connors; sisters, Gladys (Laurie) Parker and Joan (George) Church; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Garnet was predeceased by brother, Donnie; sisters, Marie Hanes, Mary Ewing and Ruth Sanford.
Special thanks go to lifelong friends, Dave Perrin and Randy Matheson, along with his doctors, nurses and palliative care team, for their compassion and care throughout the past 16 months.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317).
