Obituary of Bernard Fullerton Curry

Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Long time Falmouth resident, passed away on Sunday, July 30 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, at the age of 93. Born on January 12, 1930, in Windsor, to Arthur and Marion (Lockhart) Curry, he was the sixth of ten children.

Dad grew up in Falmouth on the family farm, where he learned the values of hard work and farm life. He loved oxen, haying, apple picking and everything about farm, forest and field. Having great respect and love for nature and the land, Dad found great peace when working in the woods and was happiest when going to the wood lot to cut logs. Being a jack of all trades, he had a sharp mind and a keen eye, never wasting anything. It was amazing what could be done with baler twine and hay wire! Many home renos and additions were built over the years and many a building moved!

He met and dated Shirley Boyd (many dates chaperoned by friend Saundra Smith). They married in 1955 and had seven children. Dad worked many years for Russell Smith Lumber and also travelled to the USA several times in the fall to pick apples.

Dad was very fond of music, camping, reading, history and could tell stories for hours. He was a founding member of The Hants Sno Dusters and an avid sledder until his mid 80’s, there wasn’t a trail he didn’t know. He sat on the Falmouth Watershed Committee for many years and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2013, for his community service.

Dad is survived by children, Joy (Dwight) Dempsey, Alonzo (Angela), Timothy, Janet (Brian) Wile, James, Jill (Rick) Randall and Sarah (Jason) Frank; grandchildren, Katie (Ryan), Tyler (Fallon), Brandon (April), Kristen (Max), Jesse (Hilary), Barrett, Lillie (Patrick), Max (Olivia), Kailyn (Ryan), Amelia and Jorja; great-granddaughter, Tessa; brother, Thomas (Marilyn); sister, Elizabeth (Stewart); sisters-in-law, Joan Lawrence and Margaret Curry; brother-in-law, Gordon (Linda) Boyd; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley; siblings, Leon, Charles, Eric, Art, Cyril, Richard and Marie; brothers-in-law, John Lawrence and Ron Robinson and sister-in-law, Carole Peterson.

Family was an important part of his life. Many Birthdays and Christmas’ were celebrated around the kitchen table. There was no place like HOME!!

Special thanks to Cheryl and Angie for all of your love and care.
