I met Alice shortly after she moved to Loch Katrine from Fraser's Mills. Her husband, Bob was the principal of our son's school, St Andrews Elementary School, now St. Andrews Consolidated School. Her bright and sunny personality made her an instant hit with all of her neighbors, especially Donald Sinclair who was like a father to her. As a step- mother to a busy young family with several head of cattle to look after, his help was invaluable.
A very social person, she became an honorary member of the Loch Katrine -Upper South River unit of the United Church Women and although a devout Roman Catholic , she participated fully in all of our activities.
She was a wonderful gardener, cook and home maker. From her abundant garden, she kept Rob and Derek well supplied with home cooked goodies made with much love as they pursued their studies at university. I have a special memory of sitting in her aromatic kitchen as she cooked lemon pie filling from scratch for Derek. She also fully and joyfully supported her other children and was so proud of their accomplishments both musical or academic.
As the mother of several children myself, I understood how difficult parenting could be, so I would turn to one who seemed to have everything figured out. I was especially interested in how she coped with her step children. She told me that "I don't do this alone. When I am troubled, I pray to their mother and she always helps me." I thought how wonderful is that?
Alice was troubled at the number of divorces that we were seeing in the seventies and wondered why when it was being made so easy for people to break up, why there wasn't more work being put on keeping families together. She always thought of the children of divorce.
Alice was beautiful, kind, warm and wonderful in every way. I treasure the notes that she wrote me in her beautiful cursive which never faltered even when she was in her nineties. As so often in my life, I regret the things that I didn't do. One thing that I regret is that I didn't spend more time with her. Matt, you were her rock and when you come home to Loch Katrine, I hope that we will have a good long talk.
My sincere condolences to all of Alice's children. I don't have to tell you how very blest you are to have had Alice as part of your lives. I am blest that for a short time, she was part of mine.
HUGS, Marjorie MacHattie

So sorry to hear of Mrs.Kimball’s passing. In the middle of the Christmas blizzard of 1970 your mother took me (a stranger) in for Christmas. Only Rob and Derrick are old enough to remember me. Nellie was a sweet little toddler and I believe Justin was a new baby? Your grandmother was there also. It was a full house.
I was like “The Man Who Came to Dinner”. I was supposed to stay for Christmas dinner but was snowed in for 3 days! I remember she cooked lots of food, did lots of dishes, and I remember that there was lots of music in the house. I remember walking through snowdrifts to the local store with a backpack on my back because the roads were impassable.
Since then I ,too, have welcomed strangers to my house for the Christmas holidays. ( one of them a Kenyan girl from StFX.) I always think of your mother (and your father)on Christmas Day and what a wonderful time I had with all of you kids and your grandmother. My son-in-law’s aunt, Terry Bigelow of Windsor often mentioned your mother to me. You were blessed to have had her in your lives.

We are currently travelling in New Zealand for the month of February and learned of Alice's passing while here. We have very fond memories of Alice particularly when she would come to our home with Rob and Marian on one of their trips home from Statesville. All of her wonderful qualities were so aptly described in her Obituary and always on display when we were with her. In short "what was not to love" about Alice. Sorry we can't be with you all for the funeral but we will be there in spirit and remembrance. Sorry for your loss.
