Obituary of Dorothy Eleanor Sypher

Age 97, of Hantsport, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Mom was born on December 3, 1926 in Kentville, to the late Malcolm and Laura (Dunham) Dorman of Kentville, where Mom remained while she grew up.

Mom is survived by son, Brian (Heather Trecartin); daughter-in-law, Susan and grandchildren, Vicki, Nicholas and Jessica. 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 76 years, Morley and son, Steven L.

She was an amazing mother, wife and friend. Her husband and soulmate passed away in 2006 while residing in Hantsport. She moved to Gladys Manning nine years ago and then Dykeland Lodge for the last two and a half. She received excellent care in both of these homes and made many friends. The staff were loving and many became friends. 

Mom loved her family, African violets and schnauzers. Her life was especially full when she had all three at the same time. She was quick with a smile, always good natured and thinking of others, quick to make friends and appreciative of all the kindness she received. 

Special friends, as well as family members, Elaine Moore of Ontario and Wendy Pitman of Yarmouth, were faithful friends throughout the years. Mom’s quality of life was greatly enhanced because of their constant calls, cards and gifts. Heartfelt thanks to Mom’s and my friend, Julie Arenbury from Brooklyn. She was our angel here on earth, providing immense comfort when it was most needed. She was a tremendous comfort to both of us. The staff at Valley Regional Emergency Department were compassionate beyond words.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). The family will receive guests on Wednesday, May 15 from 1:45-2:30 p.m., in the Wellwood Community Hall, 6 Willow Street, Hantsport. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:30 p.m., in the sanctuary of Hantsport Baptist Church, Rev. Jennifer Riley officiating. Interment will take place in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.
