Obituary of Steven Aaron Benjamin
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Steven, age 63, of Newport Station, on Sunday, July 14, 2024, while doing what he has loved most as a pastime, riding his motorcycle, in Franey Corner, Lunenburg Co. Born on June 29, 1961 in Berwick, he was a son of Hubert and the late Mary “Eleanor” (Webster) Benjamin (who predeceased him just nine months ago).
Steven lived on the North Mountain in Burlington, Kings Co. all of his childhood and loved telling the story of having to walk up and down the mountain to catch the bus and get home from school, so that he could get his education. From a very young age, Steven developed a love of dirt bikes which continued through his life later turning into a love of motorcycles. He was a very passionate and experienced rider and became a member of the Red Knights motorcycle club and was affectionately known to some members as “Sweet Cheeks” or “Old Faithful”. He took welding at NSCC Kingstec and went to work as a welder in Trenton following graduation. He then went to Ontario and Newfoundland, back to Nova Scotia where he managed numerous different stores. He worked at Parsons Motors selling cars before becoming an emergency dispatcher for the Town of Windsor. He then went on to be custodian of the Windsor Town Office and Fire Department building, from which he retired just four short years ago. Steven was a very proud member of the Windsor Fire Department and served as an active member for 25 years before moving over to the Veteran’s Association which he still served as a current member of. He was a jack of all trades and had no problems trying to tackle anything that came his way. He was also the kind of guy who would drop anything he was doing to go and help out family and friends. Steven loved to spend time bass fishing with his best friend, Jimmy Macumber. Besides his motorcycle, he also loved his pup dogs, gardening, spending time driving his tractor and especially spending time with his family and with Grace, whom he shared a special relationship with for the last 32 years.
Besides his father, Hubert, Steven will be deeply missed by his soulmate and partner, Grace Wile; son, Harden (Donna) Wile; daughters, Dorothy Weisner and Avalena Weisner (Dennis Manlow); grandchildren, Claire and Chloe Wile, Jesse McCarthy and Albert Deal; beloved pup dogs, Bitzy and Mitzy; brothers, Timothy (Theresa), Jeffery (Tracey) and David; sister, Tina (Ricky) Davidson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A public graveside service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24 in Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King St., Windsor, WFD Chaplain Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Please bring a chair if required.
