Obituary of Gerald "Bud" Thomas Joseph Delaney

DELANEY, Gerald Thomas Joseph "Bud" Age 66, of East Uniacke, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Rockingham on February 16, 1950, he was a son of the late Zita and Gerald (Buster) Delaney. He was a devoted husband to Susan (Matheson) and a proud father of Jennifer, Gillian (Brad) and Caitlin (Chris) and a loving Gine to Nolan, Cole, Sidney and Mia. He is also survived by brother, Jack (Sandra); sister, Betty (Reuben) Demont; sisters-in-law, Laura (Barry) Simmons, Marilyn (Pramod) Jolly, Debby Matheson, Dianna Harrison and brothers-in-law, Bob (Bronwyn) Matheson and Stephen Matheson; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bud was predeceased by his brothers, Danny, Robert "Bucky" and Gary. He was a passionate photographer and videographer. His career started with his own photography studio and evolved into ATV as a stills photographer, nine years in news gathering and field production cameraman. Dad spent three years at MITV/Global Maritimes as a cameraman and news director. For the past 17 years he has freelanced, working with many broadcasters in Canada, USA as well as Great Britain and France. Dad was fortunate to have a job that he thoroughly enjoyed and was able to travel the world. Dad was a wonderful generous person, who had more friends than "Hines has pickles". Special long time friends: Victor (Michelle) Oldham, Judy and Steve Hames, the Lewis Lake group and friends from film industry, Cathy Martin, Frank Clifford, Cecil MacDougall and many more. Dad was the best dad anyone could ask for. He loved us unconditionally. He was our rock, our teacher, our mechanic, our carpenter, our cheerleader and our everything. He was our first love. He would say his greatest accomplishment was us, his daughters. He talked about us to everyone, so much so, it was sometimes embarrassing. The bond between Dad and Nolan his smart little boy, Cole his tough guy, Sidney his porcelain doll, Mia his little darling and Cuba his couch cuddlier, was so great there are no words. He will be so deeply missed and forever in our hearts. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Neurosurgeon Dr. Barry, Radiation Oncologist Dr. Mulroy and his nurse Linda, staff of the Cancer Treatment Centre, and Unit 5A Palliative Care at the VG. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10 in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4 Beaverbank Rd., Lower Sackville, Rev. Father Marc Syrenne officiating. An old fashioned Irish wake, celebrating all things Bud, will start at 2 p.m. at the family home.
