Obituary of Carolyn Elizabeth Annie Russell
Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 78, of Newport Landing, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 14, 2021 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born July 25, 1943 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and F. A. Joan (Webb) Shortt.
For Carolyn, education was of utmost importance and she dedicated her career to teaching young minds. She was a beloved Grade 6 and resource teacher, spending most of her years teaching at Brooklyn Elementary School. She thoroughly enjoyed sharing her love of reading with her students and guided many of her students through learning challenges. Carolyn and Sid enjoyed a career that lasted over 30 years teaching side by side at Brooklyn Elementary School and they could often be found eating lunch together in the classroom. She had a very strong-minded personality that will never be forgotten. Carolyn loved the time she got to spend with her grandson, Owen, tending to her vegetable garden and her beloved Standard Poodles.
She is survived by daughters, Adele Russell and Eva Russell (James Hopkins); grandson, Owen Hopkins; sister, Joan (Gerald) Smith.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Sidney “Sid” Russell (March 2021); brothers, Charles and Eric Shortt.
Her family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Unit 7.2 at the QEII for their loving care and attention shown to Carolyn and her daughters.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317).
