Obituary of Elma Jean Swinamer

Passed away peacefully at the Windsor Elms Village on December 3, 2021. Born April 20, 1925 in Tenecape, third child of Harold and Georgina (Fiske) Stephens. She leaves behind sons, Stephen (Sue) Swinamer and Andrew (Shelley) Swinamer; daughters, Lorna (Bill) McKillip and June (Joe) Wilke; grandchildren, Ryan, Meghan, Iain, Diane, Paula, Mitchell, Travis and Jessie; 11 great grandchildren and her kid sister, Joan Boland. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; sisters, Margaret Redden, Claire Barker and Phyllis Stephens and her brothers, Keith Stephens and Ronnie Stephens. We, her family, are grateful for a loving mom, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She met Dad (the guy with a truck) in Windsor and they married and together built a home, a cottage and a wonderful family. The family cottage at Mockingee Lake was where we spent many happy family weekends and holidays together and remains so today. After graduating from Acadia University, Mom worked for Parsons in Windsor and later on had a second career working at the Windsor Detachment of the RCMP. During her twenty years there she had many adventures working with many different RCMP members who were posted there, the general public and even assisted with the birth of a baby or two who couldn’t quite wait for the hospital but made it to the RCMP office! Mom had a sweet quiet manner, could be stubborn at times and had a dry sense of humour which she practiced right up until recent days. She was a creative person and loved her knitting, sewing, quilting and gardening. She belonged to the Three Mile Plains Ladies Auxiliary, the Windsor United Church Women and craft group, and the Blueberry Quilters. She was the original reduce, reuse girl and thrifter, in her hobbies and in life, a talent she passed on to her family. She lived a long life, the last few years at the Windsor Elms where she enjoyed the people she met there and especially enjoyed the bus trips to see the sights. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Windsor Elms for their wonderful care, friendship and kindness. We, her family, will miss her. We hope she and Dad find and recognize each other after many years apart and that she also reunites with her brothers and sisters. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 8. Please note: Proof of COVID-19 double vaccination and identification must be presented upon arrival and masks are required at visitation. A service celebrating Elma’s life will be held at a later date when all her family can be present.
