Obituary of Arnold Ervin Smith
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arnie, of Curry’s Corner, at the age of 90, on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in VG Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Martock on July 26, 1932, he was a son of the late John R. and Florence H. (Brown) Smith.
Arnie started in the car business at a very young age with his father, J. Reg Smith. He went from sales to part owner with his two brothers and then onto sole owner retiring at the age of 72. He was an avid golfer and curler and long-time member of the Avon Valley Golf Club and Windsor Curling Club.
He will be remembered dearly by his children, daughter, Wendy (Marcel) Turgeon, St. Catharine’s, ON; sons, Kim (Shelley), Windsor; John (Gerry), Kingston; Rod (Shannon), Bedford; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sister, Ella (Jim) Markham, Santa Barbara, CA.
Besides his parents, Arnie was predeceased by his wife, Helena (Lockhart) (2010); brothers, John “Jack”, Ken, Henry, Donnie and Ronnie Smith; sisters, Violet Filmore and Marg Boyd.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m., on Thursday, June 1. A private family burial will be held in Maplewood Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 2 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Celebrant Helen Lindsay officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Donations in memory of Arnie may be made to Hants Community Hospital – Palliative Care, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0, as it was a charity that held a special place in his heart because of the care they provided to Mom.
